Like I mentioned in yesterday’s inaugural post, I’ve just finished an M.A. (in the social sciences, specializing in psychology), and unfortunately, writing to academia isn’t much more useful than writing to the void. It’s really only fruitful if one wants to play the game, get a PhD and get published in fancy journals. I started graduate school flirting with that possibility, but quickly disabused myself of the idea. So, while I’ve already shared this research (about mapping, or modeling, the spiritual path of insight meditation) with the esteemed academy, I’m more excited to now be sharing it with you!
Formal academic writing isn’t everyone’s jam (I actually criticize it in the latter portions of the paper, which are more philosophical, heartfelt and personal), but if my writing is jam-ish for you, take your time with this gargantuanly long behemoth. It turns out the head cold I had yesterday has gotten worse, and this preamble to the thesis is just about all the words I’ve got in me today; in the next week I’ll rest, heal up, let the blog simmer and give you ample time to wade through my thesis if you so choose.
Congrats on an impressive accomplishment! Rest up and feel better.
Hey Spencer. Hope you are doing well. I was wondering if you had any advice for a recent college graduate in business. I will be pursuing an MBA this fall while working full time. Starting to get bored and tired of the 9-5 grind. I am interested in knowing how you were able to escape the clutches of the corporate world. And would also like to know what got you through your Masters program?
